Paintless Dent Repair using Glue Pulling

This Ford F-150 truck came in for some Paintless Dent Repair for some dings in the roof rail. This damage may have been caused by someone attempting to break into the truck by applying pressure to the rail. This resulted in around 15 sharp dents in the middle and along the edge.

Since there is no access to use typical PDR tools to push out the dents, then the only option is to use glue pulling to pull out each dent.

Will a dent Pop Out with Glue?

It is often the thought that just by sticking a PDR Tab on to the dent and just giving it a pull will result in a instant success. But that is just not the case. The video above shows just how many times it can take to get excellent results from glue pulling out a dent.

It can take several pulls to get a dent out. It also will not just pull up flat. It will often have to be over pulled, creating a high spot or the natural glue pull will result in the area being a little bit high. This will then need to be knocked back down with a PDR knockdown tool or a special hammer. Sometimes knocking back down the high spot can get the area flat. Other times it will require more glue pulling to get the smaller low spots up.

PDR Glue Pulling Dents

The rail next to the roof on most vehicles does not allow access with regular PDR tools to get to the back of the panel. This is why the only option we are left to use it to remove the dents is using the glue pulling method. This PDR repair process involves using special PDR glue and PDR Tabs to pull out the dents. Then special hammers and knockdowns are used to blend the metal back down.

Glue pulling dents is not just a “one pull shot” where just by sticking a tab with glue to the car and pulling it out will result in a completed finished repair. The PDR Glue Pulling process requires several pulls and blending and knock down work to flatten out the metal.

The dents in the roof rail on this Ford F-150 Truck were sharp and on the edge of the panel, this required multiple pulls with the glue to get out the dents. This paintless dent repair glue pulling can take several hours to do even for a professionally experienced PDR tech. But by using a professional, you can have excellent results.
